For this second edition of Things I like, I have assembled a selection of my new edible discoveries. I would love to hear: what are your favorites right now?
Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter
This Chocolate Hazelnut butter is the bomb. I grew up eating a lot of Nutella and this one is a definite healthier version. Check out this article on why Nutella has such a bad rep. My daughter who is all about chocolate loves it of course. She likes it spread on her crepes or a slice of bread. A good thing she cannot reach the cupboard where it is stored yet…
Himalayan Fine Pink Salt
I love gourmet salt because it can really elevate the most simple dish. I have a true love for the French Fleur de Sel de Guérande, collected off the coast of Brittany. Check out David Leibovitz’ awesome article if you want to no more about it. Recently, I bought some Himalayan Pink Salt as I have heard of its numerous benefits. To name a few: its high mineral content (84 in total), its purity, natural harvest etc…I still use Kosher Salt (this one) for cooking, but I definitely switch to a higher quality salt, either the Himalayan Pink Salt or the Fleur de Sel as a finishing touch.
BarkTHINS, snacking chocolate
I wouldn’t go too far by saying that I am literally obsessed with these. I typically reward myself with a couple of these after putting my daughter to sleep with a cup of chamomile tea. I wouldn’t advice eating from the bag at this point as they are extremely addictive. There are several varieties: Almond, Pretzel, Toasted Coconut, Pumpkin Seed, Mint, Blueberry Quinoa and Peppermint Pretzel. I just found out that Bristol Farms carries ALL of them. Oh boy…I’m in trouble. My favorite so far are the Pretzel and Pumpkin Seed but I’m really intrigued by the Blueberry Quinoa one.
Imagine Free Range Chicken Broth
I must have done a homemade chicken broth probably once or twice. There are so many recipes requiring either chicken or vegetable stock and homemade chicken broth is not necessarily something you have on hand, unless you freeze it of course. So I always stock on broth, both chicken and vegetable. I find this brand to offer the best one.
This is a recent discovery. It was the main ingredient of one my HelloFresh.com meals last week. All I can say is that it was love at first sight, er taste. We really liked the almost meaty texture. Aside its delicious nutty taste, we also love that it is packed with tons of nutritional benefits. It actually has a much higher nutritional profile than quinoa. Its high source of protein and fiber is a welcomed addition to our mainly vegetarian diet. After a bit of research, I found out that it was the next “It” grain. Check out this article. I’m looking forward to finding new recipes using this grain. Will keep you posted on that!
